The 28th edition of the Sign of the Time event, which takes place at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam on the 29th of January 2020 at 20:00, will explore the strained relation between ethics and industrial design. Specifically, the evening will take us through the growing number of questions surrounding the smart home industry. As smart fridges, lights and other devices enter our homes, do we really understand what this might do to our privacy, dignity, and security? What are the real trade-offs we’re making?
These questions will be explored with Masi Mohammadi, Professor in Smart Architectural Technologies at the TU Eindhoven, and SHERPA’s Tijmen Schep, technology critic, artist, and privacy designer.
Tijmen will be interviewed about the Candle project, which SHERPA supports and influences. The night will look at the ethics of voice control, something Tijmen has a strong opinion on.
